About Us
Fawks Welsh & Performance is a small, family run stud specializing in breeding, purchasing, competing and selling ponies and horses of excellent temperament suited to performance disciplines, especially dressage. Our aim is to produce ridden ponies and horses ready to be taken out and competed at a variety of levels, suitable for both children and adults to ride.We breed Welsh Cobs, Welsh Ponies of Cob Type and Part-bred welsh and warmbloods.
Training is very ably carried out by Champion Dressage rider, Fern Wright
Fawks is also the home of Musikur, freestyle dressage to music. Aengus Wright can choreogragh and mix music for all your dressage freestyle needs, and also prepares music for other equine pursuits and can provide sound equipment and/or MC for your event.
History
The history of this stud started with the purchase some years ago of our first Welsh cob, Neika Personality. We quickly became enamoured with the breed and started to look for another saddle cob. This search led us to a yearling gelding named Kamber Pryderi. After purchasing him we became promoters of the breed by taking our Gelding Kamber Pryderi to shows everywhere before he started his dressage career in 2007, and we started promoting the Welsh in a different area- the area of performance.
Kamber Pryderi was broken in by Fern and Aengus Wright and ridden exclusively by Fern. Kamber Pryderi, together with our principal rider, instructor and Trainer, Fern Wright, went on to win many accolades - the highlights may be becoming Australian FEI Young Rider Champions at the 2012 Australian Dressage Championships, and then the Australian FEI Under 25yrs Grand Prix Champions at the 2017 Australian Dressage Championships.
In 2010 we moved to the beautiful property of Braeburn - an idyllic farm of about 88 acres situated in the Yarra Valley in Victoria. Here we bred our first Foals in 2011 - a Welsh Pony of cob Type colt named Fawks Super Trouper and a Welsh Cob Filly named Fawks Edanna.
In 2013 we were fortunate enough to be able to purchase Imperial Martha, a welsh cob mare that we had admired for years, and the dam of Kamber Pryderi, who has produced 4 lovely fillies for us.
In late 2017 we started to move the stud to another beautiful property in the Yarra Valley, and this move was completed by March 2018. This property,as well as having an indoor riding arena and an outdoor riding arena, is a little drier, thus allowing the competiton horses to be worked year round and to be able to offer more consistent training of clients horses.
Over the years the breeding program has continued with more of the emphasis of the stud moving to Warmbloods and part welsh bred with European performance ponies.
